Our Story
The Chinese American Association of Metropolitan New York (CAAMNY) began in 2017 with a simple yet powerful act of compassion.
While volunteering at Ronald McDonald House New York, a group of local Chinese American parents met families from China who had come to New York seeking life-saving treatment for their young children diagnosed with retinoblastoma at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. During one of the most difficult chapters of these families’ lives, connections were formed through empathy, care, and mutual support.
Over the next five years, these families, though changing in membership as children completed treatment, built lasting friendships through countless acts of kindness, volunteer efforts, and community gatherings. Thousands of families across Metropolitan New York joined in organizing and participating in events to support children in treatment and their loved ones. What began as informal grassroots support grew into a vibrant community united by compassion and service.
Out of this collective effort, the Chinese American Association of Metropolitan New York was formally established and accredited as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Although our work has since expanded beyond supporting retinoblastoma families, we remain grounded in our founding spirit: to help others, serve our community, and build bridges across cultures. Today, CAAMNY continues to inspire youth leadership, celebrate Chinese heritage, foster cultural understanding, and empower the next generation to give back, carrying forward the values that brought us together from the very beginning
